On arrival you will enter our bright, colourful, and warm waiting area. Our friendly receptionist will greet you, log your arrival on our computer system, and help you with any questions or worries you may have. You will be kindly asked to take a seat in either the cat waiting or dog waiting area until it is time to see the vet.

Imaging Suite – digital radiographs
Radiographs or X-rays are one of the most common and useful diagnostic tools in veterinary practice. We use X-rays to examine your pet’s bones, lungs, heart, abdomen, oral cavity, and they assist in diagnosing and monitoring many medical and surgical conditions. If we suspect your pet has a fractured bone, has swallowed a foreign object, or is suffering from a heart problem an X-ray can tell us what we need to know.
Imaging suite – ultrasound
Ultrasound is a painless, safe, non-invasive procedure we use to check your pet’s internal organs. It is one of the many ways we strive to give you peace of mind when it comes to your pet’s health. Using sound waves, ultrasound produces a real-time moving picture of your pet’s organs that allows us to visualize objects that cannot be detected by X-rays alone.
Consulting room
Our consulting room provides a suitable place to discuss your pet’s health and your concerns, and it allows our vet to perform a thorough clinical examination.
The consulting room has all the equipment our vet needs to perform an initial physical examination on your pet, with our pet weighing scales just outside the door.
The room also has a computer which will hold your contact details (compliant with GDPR) as well as your pets’ medical history. This makes it easy for our vet to look back at previous visits and treatments, make clinical decisions and keep all records up to date.
Cat friendly vet practice
At Barry’s Vets we are proud to have achieved the International Society of Feline Medicine accredited Silver Cat Friendly Clinic status indicating that we take the needs of our feline patients very seriously. We are very aware that our feline friends can find their visit or stay to the clinic stressful enough without waiting beside an inquisitive young Labrador or a not so impressed Terrier.
We are very proud to say that we have a cat only waiting area and recovery ward. Lisa Wilson is our resident Cat Friendly Advocate, and she is very happy to talk with you about how to reduce your cats stress when making a visit to the clinic. She would also be more than happy to show you around the clinic and our facilities.
In-house laboratory
We have an in-house diagnostic laboratory that allows us to perform a range of tests on blood, urine, hair, and skin thus providing us with vital information immediately. Learn more about the types of test on offer on our diagnostics page.
These tests can assist us in making a diagnosis and allows the early detection of diseases and other conditions which may be affecting your pet’s health and well-being.
On occasion we may need to send samples to other laboratories for more specific tests.
Hospitalisation
In an effort to reduce the incidence of stress our hospital wards are species specific so that cats and dogs are hospitalised separately. Our wards and recovery pens are comfortable, warm, and well ventilated and can accommodate the smallest kitten to the largest dog.
The wards are designed to allow us to provide intensive care, oxygen support, intravenous fluids, and monitoring so you can be assured that your pets are receiving the best possible care.
Our Surgical Facilities
Our fully equipped surgical theatre is where we perform all our surgical procedures and as you can imagine it requires a high level of hygiene and sterility. It is only when the animal is anaesthetised and prepared for surgery that they are gently moved into this room for their operation. We have modern anaesthetic equipment and your pet will always be monitored throughout surgery by one of our fully qualified vet nurses.
