Veterinary Surgeon and Practice Owner
Barry is our principal vet and owner of the practice. He is no stranger to Dromore having worked and lived in the town for over 10 years. He is originally from East Donegal and the Dromore area is home from home. It was while growing up on his uncle’s dairy farm that he developed his interest and passion for all things four legged. After graduating from Glasgow Vet School in 2007, he spent a number of years practising in Ayrshire and Maghera before moving to Dromore. During his 13 years in practice he has developed considerable skills and is currently studying a post graduate Certificate in Small Animal Surgery. In his free time Barry manages his small flock of sheep and enjoys walking the long stretches of beach on the north coast of Donegal with his partner and 3 dogs.
Sam joined our team recently in September 2020. He is a local guy from Armagh who developed his love and interest in animals growing up on the family farm. After graduating from Glasgow Vet School in 2012 he returned home to join a local practice for 3 years providing care to both large and small animals. Having developed a flair for surgery, he then moved to Parklands Veterinary Clinic, Dungannon to gain more skills and experience. During his 5 years there he started his Certificate in Small Animal Surgery(Cert AVP) and became their clinical lead vet. Sam is now especially interested in orthopaedic surgery. In his free time he enjoys quality family time with his wife and daughter, walking Frankie the long haired Weimaraner and playing or watching golf!!
Registered Veterinary Nurse
Joanna is our Registered Veterinary Nurse(RVN) joining the team at the end of 2019. Joanna and her family live outside Dromore, she knows the town quite well having attended the local high school. Joanna has been employed in the veterinary sector for 13 years. She started her veterinary journey by volunteering in various local practices and then becoming a night auxiliary in a local veterinary hospital. After a little time Joanna started veterinary nursing qualifying as a RVN in 2018. Joanna's first qualification as an 'animal nursing assistant' along with her hard work and determination gained her a place on the much sought after Veterinary Nursing course at Greenmount college. We are delighted to have her onboard here at Barry's Vets. Joanna loves all aspects of veterinary nursing but is especially interested in anaesthesia, pain management, weight management and emergency/critical care. She always wears a smile and keeps cool under pressure. Off duty she enjoys quality family time with her partner and a good Belfast Giants match.

Sharon grew up in Portadown, in a house that was always full of animals. In 1994 she moved to Singapore and was able to put her love of horses to good use as a volunteer at The Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA). In 2009 after a couple of years in Australia Sharon returned to RDA Singapore as a Staff Therapeutic Riding Instructor. As well as the horses and stable cats Sharon made more animal friends while pet/house sitting for families who wanted their pets to stay at home while they were on holiday. At the end of 2013 Sharon returned home and feels blessed to be able to spend time with her family, while also volunteering with Moy RDA Group and working at Barry’s Vets. She lives with her beloved dog Cassie and she frequently fosters stray kittens until we find them a loving home.
